01-1 Antananarivo
Antananarivo, also known as Tana, is Madagascar’s capital city with a population of four million. Founded in 1625, it is 1400 metres above sea level on a mountain range. We enjoyed the Antananarivo City Tour with Eperlan our guide from Madagascar Classic Collection.
01-2 Drive to Andasibe
Located in eastern Madagascar in the Moramanga District, the small village of Andasibe is surrounded by a belt of protected rainforest and several parks boasting incredible natural scenery and an array of exotic Madagascan wildlife.
01-3 Mantadia National Park
The lemurs were active and our guide managed to find five of the six species in the park including the Indri, diademed sifaka, red-bellied lemur and white ruffed lemur.
01-4 Mitsinjo Forest Reserve
Mitsinjo is a private reserve operated by local NGO Mitsinjo. We did another walk in VOI reserve, a private park run by local villagers.
01-5 Andasibe Night Walks
On our night walk, we saw chameleons and nocturnal lemurs: mouse lemurs, white-footed sportive lemur, fat-tailed dwarf lemur, as well as the woolly lemur.
01-6 Perinet Reserve
We visited the 810ha Reserve where our first sighting was the grey bamboo lemur which was the sixth species we did not see in Mantadia.
01-7 Andasibe Village Walk
Eperlan (our guide), took us for a walk through the local village.
01-8 Lemur Island and Reptile Park
Vakona Lodge’s private reserve protects a number of habituated lemurs. We also visited a Reptile Park where we fed lemurs.
