This seaside town borders the pinkish sand dunes of the Namib Desert. We visited the nearby ghost town of Kolmanskop, which has been taken over by the desert dunes. We also visited Elizabeth Bay Mine.

The wide grassy valley in which the lodge is situated is sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft Mountains with a view reaching the distant dunes of the Namib Desert in the west.

Sossusvei is famous for its towering apricot coloured sand dunes. Sossusvlei itself is actually a clay pan set amidst these star-shaped dunes which stand up to 300m above the surrounding plains.

01-10 Estosha National Park

01-10 Estosha National Park

We spent two days driving to various waterholes. You could arrive and there would be nothing and within 10 minutes it was crowded. There certainly is a “pecking order” when it comes to taking turn.

01-11 Onguma Game Reserve

01-11 Onguma Game Reserve

The camp is on the eastern border of Etosha National Park and has 34 000 hectares of private wilderness. We did a sundowner drive and the next morning spent three hours at the water-level hide.

01-12 Nhoma Safari Camp

01-12 Nhoma Safari Camp

The camp is adjacent to the Ju/’hoan village and was built by Arno and Estelle with the help of the community. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our two hunting walks with the bushmen.

01-13 Okonjima Nature Reserve

01-13 Okonjima Nature Reserve

Okonjima is home to The AfriCat Foundation. During our game drives we saw cheetahs and leopards. Many of the leopards are radio-collared for their protection but they roam freely and hunt within the 200 square kilometer nature reserve.
